Really, I’m writing about how to manage communication. I know you’re saying, “Hello? I’m a project manager, I know how to manage communications.” Hear me out, I may say something that you can start using in the future.
By definition from PMBOK, managing communications provides needed information to stakeholders in a timely fashion. Like you said earlier, I know that.
But what goes into it?
Remember the communications plan? Yep, you should be using that as a starting point. You’ll also need any status information and most importantly the tools you need to deliver the communication. It may not always be email. It could be through an intranet site Skype or pigeon carrier. You should also demonstrate how communication occurs between two parties. For example, an SOW should always be faxed to the client.
Make sure you put some guidelines in there like the status sheet needs to go out every week to the core team using Google Docs.
Go forth an manage your communications. Speaking of, drop me a line.
