Time is ticking and the need an approval. Everyone looks at you, the project manager to give the word. But wait, you haven’t gotten approval from the senior stakeholders.
Production is telling you if you don’t get approval by 10am, it won’t be done. It’s a client deliverable and they are expecting it. To make things even spicier, it’s a agency investment.
Your superhero instincts are telling you to approve it and talk through the consequences later. Guess what, your superhero will get blasted by kryptonite in a heartbeat. Why? It’s not your money.
Hear me: do not feel pressure to give an approval on something that you know in your heart of hearts needs approval. Especially where there is money involved. Don’t take it personal either. Yes, they will yell and throw themselves on the floor because of a due date, but when your employer tells you to get a box, the only thing your temper tantrum co-workers would say is with a look of sadness: “make sure we are LinkedIn to keep in touch.”
So fellow PMs, don’t fall into the superhero syndrome when it comes to money. There are plenty of other project fighting crimes you can concur. Get approvals-and put it in e-mails.
